Gay kiss photo and homophobic rant go viral in Singapore

Post with photo of gay kiss and labelling it “simply disgusting” is shared over 80,000 times.

A secretly snapped photo of a gay couple kissing on Singapore’s subway has gone viral and sparked an anti-gay campaign against the couple.

A Singapore woman, known only as Melinda, took the photo and posted it alongside a hate-filled rant in which she said “What if my children saw this and asked ‘Mummy, why are the two men kissing?’”

She wrote:

“Would I have to answer "It's the same as normal love and marriage. The only difference is that one man opens his buttocks for the other man to put his private part inside but in the end, no babies come out. They only get AIDS”?!”

One half of the couple, Australian man Peter Eggenhuizen, told Star Observer that he felt mortified and violated to see the image and article go viral.

“To rub salt into the would, the author went on to attack my act of love and affection,” Eggenhuizen said. “But I feel the need to rise above it and raise awareness that this is unacceptable.”

You don't need to tell them as you're bigoted and intolerant. Instead of bring up your children to be loving human beings, why are you preaching this hatred?

Wish I knew what this woman posted on. I have the perfect response.
"It doesn't have any effect on your life. What do you care? People try to talk about it like it's a social issue. Like when you see someone stand up on a talk show and say "How am I supposed to explain to my child that two men are getting married"....
I dunno, it's your shitty kid, you fuckin' tell 'em. Why is that anyone else's problem? Two guys are in love but they can't get married because you don't want to talk to your ugly child for fuckin' five minutes?" Louis C.K.

I wish her kids will grow up being gay. Serve her right

She like many others is intolerant and probably jealous and unhappy in her own life. I feel sorry for her kids who have NO chance to grow up open minded and loving.

This kind of thing happens too often and sickens me. She should be telling her kids that this is love and its OK for 2 people no matter who they are. Pathetic.

While I disagree with the woman's comments and her rant (poor ignorant fool), it shows that some things should be more private.

I don't like to see heterosexual people kissing passionately in public either. A "goodbye" or hello kiss is fine for me. I had a couple kissing passionately beside me on an commercial flight one time and I was disgusted by it... it was not the time or place for it.

Well, looking at comment no. 3, it's fair to say you can be gay and intolerant also. Insulting innocent children? What a deeply unpleasant individual.

8. 2016-11-01 18:41
Also seems you can be gay like no. 7 and be unable to comprehend what you read. The insult is to the parent, not the children. That you think I'm unpleasant means you don't know what I think of you GTiLad. I know this will be deleted but hopefully you see it prior. You are an irritant on this site. I'm glad I haven't run into you on any other. Sometimes I don't know whether to laugh at you or pity you. I think a poll taken by the members might be split on which one.

I am not sure this "woman" is a woman. This may reflect some sexist bias from me, but would a conservative woman in Singaporean society really use terms like "The only difference is that one man opens his buttocks for the other man to put his private part inside"? Some homophobic men may conveniently pose for women.

Stupid woman /person ought to be outed and named and shamed herself then she how much feedback she gets. As they always say - if straights hate gays so much why do they keep making more of them for us?
11. 2016-11-02 04:53
8, the insult may well be directed to the parent but it is clearly about the child. Why would your comment be deleted? You really are spineless.

A split poll? Gosh.

Good luck in finding her post.

From TikHien Souw The Netherlands:

Singaporeans like concentration camps..that's why she reacted that way!
I can imagine that she has got lack of any knowledge about concentration camps on Java and Europe..if so and the Singaporean government still shows lack of this acknowledgement of existence of concentration camps...you may fill it your self now the consequences...We only have to ask Mayor of Rotterdam Aboutaleb to request for meanings, who is in charge for mingling Singaporean stance to Rotterdam City..what he makes out of this!

sad sad sad woman

Melinda's explaination to her children is way more disgusting than two people of the same sex kissing ! Maybe someday if one (or more) or her children turn out to be gay, they can explain the situation to her in adult terms. Pathetic adult role model for her kids !
16. 2016-11-03 09:41
My heart goes out to Melinda's children. They'll be taught that type of ignorance for years. Pity.
17. 2016-11-04 00:36
For all the shiny metal and glass that is Singapore's facade, its soul is quite dingy.
18. 2016-11-04 01:54
Well, love is about TWO people, not about some people told them NOT TO LOVE OR ITS WRONG TO LOVE.

Most people told that, are the people who're NOT HAPPY with themselves,

Who should I care if I want to kiss my bf? At lease I have common sense not to do it in kindergarten school or in the temple.

So, who's having less common sense here? A women who took the photo of the couple, or the couple that have not ask her permission to kiss?

Some would argue that they should be allowed to do whatever they like wherever they like. Schools, church, high street, anywhere.

Gay men cruising in and around public toilets..... Day or night.

A quick peck on the lips or cheek is fine in my book. Long lingering tongue sandwiches.... gay or straight.. I'd rather not see it. But that's my view and I'd probably only go so far as tut loudly or let out a sigh, or proclaim, "phwoar!!" to embarrass them.

"Get a room!" is another apt remark.

There's one sure way not to feel "mortified and violated".

Well that anti gay woman better not visit Canada as she could be in for a shock when she sees gay couples showing affection in public here kissing each other and holding hands.
Our laws for acceptance are already established here.

Despite her inner thoughts, what she DID do was take a BEAUTIFUL photo and spread it to the world.

I do hope your comments never get removed americanbear, no matter the inaccuracies, hate or hypocrisy they contain.

Melinda is simply ignorant. This kind of vicious intolerance to LGBT community is usually born and breed from religious groups and their teaching. Christians tend to recreate the meaning of religion to fit their own needs.
Society as a whole has to address these issues with education and social interaction.
There is no place for hate and bigotry of this sort in the world.

Stop allowing any and all tax exemptions for Religion organizations. If they want to dabble in politics, then they will have to pay as everyone else.

A hexterosexual couple will only make love to the opposite sex because they
are born that way. If ask them to love a person of the same sex they will not do it. They will feel miserable and unacceptable, not joy and happiness. It is the same for gays. Why would you want to make others unhappy. No amount of medical treatment or otherwise will change the situation. It is not wrong for 2 persons to love one another irregardless of their sex. It is
their business not yours. If you don't like it, simply don't it yourself. The world is full of variety and colours. Live and let live.
