Hong Kong Feeling Confident After Gay Games Bid

Federation of Gay Games inspectors have now toured two out of the three finalists, and the Hong Kong bid team are feeling confident.

Representatives of the Federation of Gay Games (also known as the Gay Olympics) completed their tour of Washington DC last week.

The city—along with Hong Kong and Guadalajara in Mexico—is a finalist to bid the 2022 games.

Over in Hong Kong, organisers have said they remain confident in becoming the first asian city to host the games after they were visited by gay games officials in May.

Hong Kong bid co-chair Dennis Philipse told Gay Star News that although Hong Kong lags behind in LGBTI rights, the government has been very supportive.

“They treat us like any sporting event in Hong Kong. In general, we can say we have a supportive government,” he said, adding that the bid team felt very hopeful of securing host city for the 2022 games.

“After three days of seeing some many venues the inspector said he had never seen so many great venues,” Philipse said. “I think it will be an opportunity to showcase Hong Kong.”

The host city will be announced in October in Paris.
