Alanis Morissette performs new album tracks, talks inspirations [VIDEO]

Over the years, Alanis Morissette has been a true musicial chameleon who has changed up her style and artistic point of view to reflect her evolving take on love, life and the immaterial things that truly make a difference.

In a sit-down interview with the folks of Walmart Soundcheck, the singer openly speaks about what it's like for her to be a mother, and how that experience directly impacts her work and writing.

Filmed on an exclusive set in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley on a searing hot August day, the Canadian pop rocker also performed songs from her highly-anticipated new album, titled "Havoc And Bright Light." Together with her full band, she plays a soaring rendition of her fantastic new single "Guardian," plus she throws in a few of her classics as well, including "You Learn."

Morissette also explains that "Havoc And Bright Light" particularly is an album that sums up many of her experiences over the years. "As a teenager it was more pop and dance music that I was writing with huge, big hooks," she explains. "And over the years, it has been slowly integrating all of my favorite sensibilities and this new record is really culminative in that way. In nails every sonic soundscape that I live for."

If you haven't caught on yet to Walmart Soundcheck, this episode with Alanis Morissette is a great moment to get in the know about this unique live performance series that features some of music's biggest artists. Every month, Soundcheck invites artists to come to their studios, exclusively perform new album cuts and sit down to provide commentary about their music. I remember the summer of 1996 and listening to Jagged Little Pill. It was an amazing album and I didn't think i would ever hear anything as good as that in the future from Alanis Morrissette but this is a brilliant new album. maybe i'll relive the summer of 96' all over again:)

Yes, this may be eons away from her Jagged Pill days, but you can't fault Alanis for evolving and being happy to compose and record songs that are relevant to her today. She can still pack a mean punch, as with angry songs like Woman Down (which attacks misogynists) and Celebrity (self-explanatory). What surprises are songs like ’Til You, Empathy and Receive, which are downright lyrical and soothing without losing substance. Guardian and Edge of Evolution herald more mature lyrics and impeccable songwriting skills, as does Win and Win. A strong set of songs that should please her old fans, and find her new ones. I love Alanis, no matter what. :)

She always sounds good, but for some reason these were particularly strong performances. Love her!
