Watch: To Mum (Love, Me)

A short film about the relationship between a mother and her lesbian daughter, and how they learn to accept their differences.

A coming out story set in modern day Singapore, Joan is a closeted lesbian living with her mother, Nancy. When Nancy forces Joan out of the closet, the two women have to rethink their relationship and convictions.

Directed by Singaporean writer and filmmaker Joyene Nazatul Ismail, the film explores coming out in a conservative Asian household where the idea of family honor and tradition is held with great regard.

The 16-minute film was chosen as festival favourite at the Palm Springs LGBTQ Film Festival in 2015.
