DESCRIPTION:https://www.fridae.asia/hk/agenda/6785\n\nAnd Then Came Lola--
followed by Sapphic Desires on Stage and the Silver Screen : A Roundtable
Discussion on the Representations of the Lesbian Body with Dr Loretta Chen
\n\nPost-Museum and The Ob/scene presents the 3rd installation to the gend
er-related series of events with the 'time-bending\, sexy\, lesbian romp'
And Then Came Lola. While previous events have centred around Feminism and
what it is\, this event will mark the shift int⋯⋯o Gay and Lesbian St
udies with an independent film made by a group of LBT women\, for LBT wome
n.\n\nAs many of you are aware\, MDA has institutionalised the discriminat
ion against queer bodies in films and other visual mediums. The most recen
t assault to the LGBTQ community was in MDA's censure of the film The Kids
Are All Right--which had limited screenings in Singapore due to its lesbi
an-affirming content. In other words\, all acceptable representations of L
GBTQ persons should involve them being mad\, or meeting an eventual macabr
e death. However\, what seemed to be lacking in this uproar was any sugges
tions of\, or elaborations on what actually is a 'positive representation'
of LGBTQ persons.\n\nThe film will serve as a case study for the discussi
on group chaired by Dr Loretta Chen\, to be held immediately after the fil
 m. Dr Chen will be exploring issues surrounding the (in)ability to represe
nt the lesbian body in film and in the eyes of the law\, as well as what--
 if possible--contributes to a positive representation.\n\n\n\nDr Loretta C
hen's PhD was on Contra-indications: Corporeality\, Iconicity and Represen
tation in Singapore Lesbian Theatre\, which included a section on the para
doxes and ambiguities of MDA's legislation. She is perhaps more well known
as a gay icon\, vocal advocate and supporter of the LGBTQ community. For
more about Dr Loretta Chen can be found on her website: http://www.loretta
-chen.com/\n\n\n*The Ob/scene is a series of gender-related events that se
ek to bring onto the scene\, what was once off the scene.\n\n**This is a p
rivate event. RSVP required.\n\nEntry by donation to Post-Museum. :)\n
