Watch: Documentary reveals Chinese hospitals offering gay 'cure' therapy

The British TV Channel 4 reports on doctors prescribing drugs and electric shocks to gay men and lesbians in Beijing, despite homosexuality's declassification as a mental illness in 2001.

Meet the Chinese LGBT activists bravely uncovering dangerous, unproven gay conversion treatments.

Chinese LGBT activist John bravely goes undercover to report on 'conversion clinics' who claim they can 'cure' gay people. Almost fifteen years after the Chinese Psychiatric Association stopped classifying homosexuality as a mental illness, unproven treatments, including electric shock therapy, are still being prescribed.

John says that according to Confucius, 'having children is the most important thing a person can do for their parents' and, that it is often parents who submit their children for these unproven conversion treatments.

Brutal ugly shit! This is torture with no merit and no good result.

This kind of "homo-cure" is very expensive, almost the highest charge in some Chinese mental hospitals.

In China every year many people even commit suicide for being gay, no wonder such "cure" could exist.

Truly sad....These brave souls out there exposing this horrific inhuman practices to the world...My well wishes and gratitude goes out to them all. Only by exposing practices such as electo shock therapy and drugs to cure being gay will help bring about positive change. Enlightenment through education is the best way.

Truly sad... there is nothing to "cure" in these normal people. I only hope that someday common sense prevails...

So he wants to share his whole true life with his family, which be legally can, yet he chooses to seek out this unscientific therapy for a documentary,

Rather odd.

I'd think the therapy is more aimed at sex addiction but hey.

Such an ignorant country that does not know being gay is genetic make up
and cannot be changed.

On a lighter note, can they modify and re-attach the electric pads to another area, adjust the intensity, so happy endings can be achieved... happy patient inside, outside-waiting parents happy too. Similar to doctor's in-office treatment of female hysteria 100 years ago. I'm just voicing out what might have crossed many guys' minds, just saying. LOL

Dumbfounded , aghast and in absolute shock I still am after reading about such primitive a practice in 2015. Have the so high levels of pollution in Beijing affected the brain functions of those practising so called medicine there ? Could those prone to inflicting such torture upon their fellow countrymen reread Chinese history , and try to absorb the fact that during the era of the Qing dynasty , and during former times as an empire , China had become a modern day Ancient Greece re gay issues ?
Had kept fond memories of the years I lived in Bj , but no more Charlie , no more !
