lan yu shut out at HK film awards

Critically acclaimed gay film, Lan Yu, failed to win any awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards, one of the most prestigious accolades in the Chinese movie circuit.

Stanley Kwan's internationally acclaimed gay film, Lan Yu failed to get any awards at Sunday's Hong Kong Film Awards despite receiving 11 nominations, including best film and best actor (for both of its stars).

Stephen Chow: actor and director of Shaolin Soccer garnered seven awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards.
The night's big winner was Shaolin Soccer which starred and was directed by popular comedy actor Stephen Chow, garnered seven awards for best film, director, young director, actor, supporting actor, sound design and visual effects.

The film which is Hong Kong's highest-grossing film on record, earned more than HK$60 million (US$7.7 million) at the Hong Kong box office last summer.

Period drama Peony Pavilion which centered on the romantic bond between two women took two prizes for best costume/make up design and art direction.
