Young people in the Philippines have helped design and deliver a health-education programme that has certified 171 peer facilitators, UNAIDS reported on 23 October. The programme is also being integrated into local youth development and health plans.
The Youth Health Learning Package was developed with the UN Joint Team on AIDS, government and community partners. Young people from key populations served by HIV programmes are among those involved in its design and delivery.
UNFPA described the package in May as a guide for peer educators. Its modules cover sexual and reproductive health, HIV awareness, mental health and gender sensitivity. The aim is to help facilitators pass on information accurately and sensitively.
That May account followed Tine, a trans woman who uses the package in her work as a peer facilitator. She spoke about learning to share knowledge.
“Through facilitating sessions and undergoing training, I’ve found my confidence,” she told UNFPA.
