Nearly 200 candidates have registered support for gender issues on Taiwan’s PrideWatch voter guide, Taiwan Equality Campaign said at a press conference on 27 October, according to the Central News Agency.
The group gave the figure in an update on the guide ahead of this year’s local elections. PrideWatch lets readers search for candidates by constituency and examine their stated commitments on gender issues.
A candidate’s team registers an account and completes a questionnaire pledging support, the platform’s own guide explains. That is how a candidate receives its supportive label; it is not an independent assessment of their performance in office.
There is also room for voters to add information. Registered users can contribute records of candidates’ public remarks, including statements they consider supportive or unsupportive of LGBTQ+ people. Those contributions sit alongside the candidates’ own pledges, giving readers different kinds of material to examine.
