Japan’s Tsunaniji LGBTQ+ chat support resumes after safety checks

The free LINE consultation service welcomes people unsure about their sexuality or gender, as well as family members and teachers.

Tsunaniji, a LINE chat service in Japan for people with questions about sexuality and gender, resumed accepting enquiries on 23 October after a one-day pause.

Its operator had halted intake on 22 October to check system safety following reports of vulnerabilities in the PHP programming language. The resumption notice said those checks had confirmed the system’s safety.

Consultation is free. An 8 April notice lists daily hours of 5pm to 10pm in Japan, or 4pm to 9pm in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taipei.

The service’s examples include having feelings for a same-sex friend and questions about gender at school. It also takes questions about family and the future.

You don’t have to be sure that LGBTQ describes you to use it, the service page says. Family members and teachers can ask for support too. Its website explains how to add the consultation account on LINE.

The service says it may use de-identified consultation cases and statistics in reports.
