More Than Happy wins CRAFT animation award

Tan Wei Keong’s seven-minute film follows two couples waiting for restaurant service in a queer utopia, with time and happiness on their minds.

Singaporean filmmaker Tan Wei Keong’s More Than Happy has won the Professional Craft Award in the Southeast Asia Competition of All Techniques in Animation at the sixth CRAFT International Animation Festival.

The festival, held from 23 to 28 October, names the 2025 film in its official winners list. The jury praised the way its images, music and dialogue convey subtle moments of human connection.

Distributor Square Eyes describes a “queer utopia” in which two couples wait at a restaurant for service that never arrives. As they become hungry, they talk about time and happiness before deciding to leave.

The seven-minute animation’s voice cast includes Shou Chen Tan, Kirsten Tan, Amanda Lee Koe and Nicholas Kent Tann. Darren Ng is credited with sound and music, while Jia Ying Lim is the art director.

Tan is listed as director and writer, and as a producer alongside Davier Yoon. Berlinale Talents records the finished film as a Singapore production and links the project to its Short Form Station in 2022.

Fridae reported Tan’s Best Animation win for Hush Baby at the first Singapore Short Film Awards in February 2010.
