Gabby Williams scored 30 points as the Golden State Valkyries beat the Atlanta Dream 68–63 in San Francisco on 31 October, winning their first WNBA championship in only their second season.
The league’s first Finals Game 7 settled the series 4–3. Atlanta led 30–24 at half-time, but Williams finished with four three-pointers and four blocks to help turn it around.
With the score tied at 57 late in the fourth quarter, Williams hit a three-pointer to put Golden State back in front. Veronica Burton secured a jump ball and made two free throws with 5.1 seconds left, the Associated Press reported.
Kiah Stokes collected 13 rebounds for the Valkyries. Tiffany Hayes added 11 points, while Burton had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jordin Canada led Atlanta with 18 points.
Williams has spoken publicly about her partner, fellow player Marine Johannes. In the Valkyries’ July All-Star coverage, she called Johannes an “All-Star in her life” for supporting her through the ups and downs away from basketball.
Atlanta had forced the decider with an 80–69 Game 6 win. This time, Golden State finished the job at home.
