Betty, the Osaka cabaret performer known as Betty Mama, died on 2 November, according to the staff of Betty no Mayonnaise. The show pub announced the death in a notice dated 4 November.
Staff described Betty as a pioneering figure in Japan’s gender-diverse cabaret culture. Their tribute highlighted a 25 November 2024 appearance on Nippon TV’s Getsuyō kara Yofukashi.
They thanked customers and television audiences for their support and said they would carry forward the connections Betty had built, along with the venue.
A non-religious memorial is planned in Osaka on 23 November, from 1pm to 2pm Japan time. The venue says anyone who knew or admired Betty is welcome; its notice has the details. Staff say the club will continue operating, with a closure on 22 November.
