The best thing about Meet The Fockers is its extraordinary
veteran cast. Barbra Streisand, Dustin Hoffman and Robert De Niro
are all amazing Oscar-winning actors who have given us classic movies
for more than 30 years. And to see all three of them in one big,
fat comedy is a rare treat indeed!
In this sequel to 2002's Meet The Parents, Ben Stiller
and Teri Polo play a engaged couple who have arranged for their
parents to meet. His parents are the free-spirited, happy-go-lucky
Bernie (Dustin) and Roz Focker (Barbra); her parents are the serious,
no-nonsense Jack (Robert) and Dina Byrnes (Blythe Danner). The two
pairs of parents are the complete opposite of each other —
thus giving rise to many funny encounters.
Barbra is absolutely hilarious in her silver screen comeback, gliding
about sensuously as the sex therapist Mum who's always giving sex
advice to those around her. She exudes just the right amount of
warmth and goofiness, and every scene with her in it is pure joy.
Yes, the jokes are somewhat cheap, but it is Barbra, Dustin and
Robert who make them memorably funny. Our only complaint with this
movie is that we didnt get to hear Barbra sing — what's a
Bab's movie without music?
But it's worth catching for some really good laughs.
