In 1980, some 75,000 Mexicans died when its city of El Salvador
became the stage for a full-scale civil war between a corrupt government
and the guerilla fighters.

The war lasted a decade and destroyed the homes and lives of millions.
Not only that, the average age for military conscription was lowered
to 12, sending thousands of boys on the brink of puberty to the
warfront.

Innocent Voices chronicles the life of Chava (Carlos Padilla),
an 11-year-old boy trying to lead a normal childhood in spite of
the madness surrounding him. Mexican director Luis Mandoki (Message
in a Bottle
) draws an extraordinary portrait of youthful hope
and resilience, as well as strong performances from Carlos and Leonor
Varela, who plays his mother.
