Nick Hornby's tale of seduction is both a comic unfolding of a seduction fuelled by the oldest and cheesiest lines in the book, as well as a sensitive coming of age tale.

Fantastic Mr Fox may well be the best-written and most engaging animated movie of 2009. Yes, Mr Wes Anderson is an auteur, and he should be proud of it. 

While Mark Whitacre is no Maxwell Smart, his goofy antics are sure to drive his FBI masters up the wall and send audiences into laughter in Steven Soderbergh's latest spy comedy.

Roland Emmerich destroys the Earth once again this year, in 2012. How would you like your planet and civilisation destroyed? Emmerich serves us apocalypse Mayan-style this time. CGI-fans are in for a treat: we have earthquakes, an exploding super-volcano, tsunamis and more for you. 

Made on the cheap for around US$15,000, Paranormal Activity has been a phenomenal success in the USA, making over US$90 million at the box office to date, and becoming the most profitable independent film of all time. But is it really any good? 

Humpday tells the story of two straight guys who decide to test the limits of their manhood by (hooray!) having gay sex with each other. This bromance manages the rare feat to be both perceptive and hilarious. 

Seemingly not a year goes by without a Saw movie; however this one springs a few pleasant surprises for horror and gore movie fans.

We would have liked a little more explicit girl-on-girl action in this horror comedy, but the vampires here are hot enough.

Megan Fox is definitely hot enough to have a movie named after her character’s body. And though this isn’t as scary as we would have liked it to be, the smartass Diablo Cody script has its high points.

Finally, a Singapore film with enough guts and good taste to parody founding father Lee Kuan Yew and his family. Or did we get it wrong?
