Consider yourselves lucky that you get to watch Constantine
10 days before the film is released in the US and elsewhere in the
world. Brought in specially for the Chinese New Year, this horror-action-thriller
boasts a non-stop onslaught of spectacular sequences and gazillion-dollar
special effects.
It stars Keanu Reeves as Constantine, a supernatural detective
who can see the demons and angels that walk the earth disguised
as human beings. When Angela's (Rachel Weisz) twin sister mysteriously
commits suicide, she seeks Constantine's help in finding out why.
The pair soon find themselves traversing earth and hell in search
of the answers.
Based on the comic book Hellblazer, Constantine has a
complex plot and internal logic that raise it above other apocalyptic
thrillers like Stigmata (with Patricia Arquette), End
Of Days (with Arnold Schwarzenegger) and The Seventh Sign
(with Demi Moore).
It comic-book roots also aid Constantine in achieving
its gorgeously dark and dynamic visual style. Its creation of hell,
with its raging fires and ghastly creatures, is an eye-scalding
spectacle.
Constantine could well the first big blockbuster of 2005.
Don't miss it.
