Now this should have been a movie that fags would've wanted to
watch. But in truth, The Wedding Date is a movie that everyone
— fags or straights — should avoid.
Debra Messing (who plays the fag hag Grace on gay sitcom Will
And Grace) leads the cast as a busy working girl who hires
a male escort to accompany her to her sister's wedding in London.
Mind you, the male escort (the ultra-delicious Dermot Mulroney)
is no cheap and dumb rent boy. He is a chic and articulate metrosexual
who studied comparative literature in university and can hold his
own on matters of the heart. Though he is supposed to pose as her
boyfriend, the two find themselves falling in love for real.
While a comic set-up like this seems to offer opportunities for
many laughs and surprises, the reality is much grimmer. The
Wedding Date is a dull affair, with a lot of cheap sentimentality
and a grand total of 5 to 7 laughs.
We're surprised that Debra, who's been on Will And Grace
since 1998, can't tell the difference between a good and bad comic
script by now.
