Leon Lai puts his sleepy eyes and bland smile to good effect in
Moonlight in Tokyo, where he plays an intellectually-impaired
man who is abandoned by his family in Tokyo. There, he bumps into
his old good-for-nothing ex-classmate Chapman To, who persuades
him to work as a gigolo.
This isn't quite Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, but there
are some funny slapstick scenes. Unfortunately, the comedy becomes
stale and predictable rather quickly, even though Chapman To does
his best to keep it going. Yang Kuei-Mei shines (as she usually
does) as the owner of an escort agency and Michelle Yeh impresses
in her role as Chapman's ex-wife.
As for Leon, we suppose there isn't much he can do with the role
of a retard, is there? Is there? A little movie called Rain
Man with Dustin Hoffman now comes to mind?
