Yes, I'm still fuming after the Oscar Scandal involving a dowdy
pink frock and a saccahrine cross-dressing turn in Shakespeare
in Love. But, in the regal spirit of Queen Cate, I shall strive
to be unfazed in my judgement of this new film starring America's
Sweetheart-for-all-the-wrong-reasons.
Gwyneth reunites with director John Madden in this well-made, if
a tad unexciting, adaptation of the eponymous Pulitzer prize-winning
play. She plays the daughter of a famed but ailing Maths genius
(the great Anthony Hopkins) who sacrificed her own academic career
to take care off the latter. The cast, which includes dreamboat
Jake-Bareback Mountain-Gyllenhaal, gives powerful performances all-round.
Nope, you don't need to know your logarithms to enjoy this tale
of familial tensions and self-discovery.
