Believe it or not, this British comedy is actually rather funny,
even though most audiences would give it a miss on the grounds that
it stars unglamorous British actors and one C-list American actor.
Kristin Scott Thomas plays a bored housewife who lives with her
dull husband (Mr Bean's Rowan Atkinson), a nymphomaniac
daughter and a wimpy son. She has a good mind to throw it all away
and run off with her sleazy golf instructor (Patrick Swayze, who
wears a red thong in one scene, yuck!).
But help is on the way, in the form of the new housekeeper (Maggie
Smith) who has a mysterious way of solving all the problems of the
household. Suffice to say that it involves a bit of blood.
With terrific performances from Kristin and Maggie, and a restrained
turn by Rowan, Keeping Mum is a surprisingly funny comedy.
Watch it if you enjoy British humor and sitcoms like The Office.
