One Colorado pledges continued support after conceding surgery-ban vote

The LGBTQ advocacy group says transgender young people and families will help guide its work after Proposition 135.

One Colorado has acknowledged defeat on Colorado’s Proposition 135 and pledged to keep organising with transgender young people and their families. Its statement, dated 5 November, says voters approved the surgery measure alongside Proposition 134 on school sports.

The state’s voter guide says Proposition 135 would prohibit certain surgeries on minors intended to alter biological sex characteristics in response to their perception of sex or gender. It would also bar government funds and insurance coverage for those procedures. The proposal includes medical exceptions and does not restrict non-surgical gender-related treatments such as counselling.

One Colorado said young people and families would help guide its continued listening-based conversations, storytelling and coalition work. The group plans to identify resources with partners and share verified information as it becomes available.

“No election result can take away your dignity or belonging,” executive director Nadine Bridges said.
