Innhouse eco guesthouse, Kunming, China

Set on a forested hill overlooking Kunming, Innhouse comprises four L-shaped structures that include 17 suites, each with its own bamboo-clad balcony cantilevered over the dense landscape.

Designed by Hong Kong-based Oval Partnership, the timber-clad framework boasts a host of sustainable technologies, from solar-heated water, rainwater recycling and grey water reuse, to a daylight maximisation and built-in ventilation. It’s the latest in a series of projects (including the world’s first multi-storey laminated bamboo house) aimed at making this medieval city the first eco-town in Southern China.
