Man pleads guilty to blackmailing male teacher over gay relationship

A Singaporean man has extorted S$197,000 as well as luxury watches and handbags

On Tuesday Vincent Ng pleaded guilty to blackmailing a 45 year old teacher. He threatened to inform the Education Ministry and the victim’s school.

Gay sex is technically illegal in Singapore according to their outdated colonial era laws. However, it is rarely enforced.

Ng, who is himself married to a woman, met the teacher on TREVVY in 2013. He began demanding compensation for their meet ups.

The victim paid out over S$197,000 (US$137,000) over the course of a year. In 2014, stripped of his life savings, he went to the police.

It is reported by the prosecution that Ng has a gambling addiction. “Not satisfied with his ill-gotten gains when he first committed the offense, he continued to torment the victim in order to satiate his desire to gamble,” they said.

Ng faces up to seven years in jail and could be caned.
