China LGBT job fair held in Shanghai

Twice as many companies in attendance as last year, including Starbucks, IBM, PayPal, BP and eBay

The Second China LGBT job fair wrapped up in Shanghai on May 29 with 34 companies in attendance.

The event was organised by advocacy group WorkForLGBT and was supported by Kanzhun / BOSS. Around 500 people attended the fair.

“All 34 companies who registered for our job fair this year pledged their support for inclusive policies for LBGT employees, including prohibiting LGBT workplace discrimination”, said Steven Paul Bielinski, Founder of WorkForLGBT.

“This is an enormous step forward for the business community in China as they increasingly realize the importance of LGBT talent”.

Earlier that same day, WorkForLGBT held their 3rd Annual LGBT Corporate Diversity & inclusion Conference, welcoming 100 HR leaders and LGBT employees to discuss programs and policies that can ensure equality at work.

More than 800 LGBT employees registered for the fair online and tens of thousands discussed the event via social media, according to WorkForLGBT.

Other international firms attending included Nielsen, L’Oreal, McKinsey, EY, Hyatt Hotels, PayPal, PwC, Electronic Arts, BP, Hogan Lovells, eBay, Ogilvy, IBM and Chinese firms included Didi Taxi App, BlueFocus, and BOSS,
