A local Hong Kong group of parents dedicated to "family values" is planning to quiz potential Legislative Council election candidates on their LGBT stance and publish their results before the end of August, according to the Standard.

Parental Rights Alliance chairwoman Catherine Yeung Man-ying said that the move was not political, but that they hoped to "inform voters about the candidates' ideology."

"We believe this direct and practical approach is appropriate for someone who will participate in legislative work. This will allow us to better comprehend the candidates' position on LGBT related issues," Yeung told the Standard.

"If I know that a candidate supports LGBT, I would probably think twice whether I wanted to vote for him. Because I know that once he pushes for legislation, I will lose my rights, my freedom of speech, my freedom educating my kids in the way I want to," she went on to say.

An Equal Opportunities Commission spokesman said the watchdog welcomed and respected different views from different groups on LGBT rights, according to the Standard.
