Choir Raises Awareness of China's LGBT Community

Choirs come together in Shanghai to mark Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month.

In an unprecedented event, seven LGBT choirs are joining to perform a concert in Shanghai in honor of Pride Month, Inkstone News reported.
Singers have come from across the country to be part of the concert, including from the far western province of Xinjiang. It is the first national LGBT choir performance in China, and will be called "Journey of Light."
Cheng Zi, a promoter, met his current partner in the group.
"I realized so many people who share my sexual orientation and thoughts can live a great life just like everyone else," he told Inkstone News. "It defused my doubt and confusion."
Struggles continue for LGBT Chinese, choir member and bass singer Ge Zi explained. "We have some space to survive in this society, but it's unlikely that we will be recognised officially in the next few decades."
The 2018 Pride Festival in Shanghai is the tenth annual event of its kind honouring the LGBT community.
