Taiwan Marriage Equality Referendum and Crowd-funding

Following last weeks Taiwan Pride, focus has now turned to the upcoming referendum on Marriage Equality in Taiwan, which will take place later this month.

Fridae has learnt that activists in Taiwan are now crowd-funding to raise funds to help promote the case for Marriage Equality, as anti-LGBT groups have a budget of more than US$3 million for campaigning against marriage equality.

Last weekend, we reported on APCOM’s efforts to support this important marriage Equality initiative [ insert hyperlink on “we reported on APCOM’s efforts” to https://www.fridae.asia/gay-news/2018/10/27/14345.apcom-and-its-important-campaigns-in-asia-support-the-fight-for-lgbt-rights-in-asia ] and its crowd-funding campaign [ insert hyperlink on “its crowd-funding campaign” to (https://www.fridae.asia/gay-news/2018/10/27/14345.apcom-and-its-important-campaigns-in-asia-support-the-fight-for-lgbt-rights-in-asia ], and yesterday GayStarNews reported on additional efforts to raise Funds for this very important cause [ insert hyperlink on “GayStarNews reported” to https://www.gaystarnews.com/article/lgbti-taiwanese-are-crowdfunding-their-for-fight-equal-marriage/#gs.q13J7EA) ], which we wanted to share with our members and readership.
Whilst last week’s Taiwan Pride attracted an estimated 137,000 participants, Fridae has since learnt that there was a Police Raid at the Formosa Pride Party. Top International DJ, Joe Gauthreaux, who was spinning at the Formosa Pride Party reported on his Facebook Page that the Police raided the party shortly after his set began. We hope this was not something specifically targeted at the LGBT Community.
There are clearly forces working against equality for the LGBT Community in Taiwan and we hope that together we can support a successful outcome in the marriage equality vote, which we believe could potentially be a catalyst for similar change more widely across Asia.
