Hong Kong no closer to ‘controversial’ marriage equality, Chief Executive says

Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, this week said the Government was no closer to legalising same-sex marriage.

At a conference on Wednesday, she said the issue remained ‘controversial’ – but she also recognised that a recent court ruling in favour of LGBT rights ‘does help’ attract foreign talent. Ray Chan, Hong Kong’s only openly gay lawmaker, accused Carrie Lam of ‘hypocrisy and double standard’. But, he told Gay Star News, the prominent LGBT news provider, that ‘despite her spin to make her look inclusive and business friendly to the international business community, she remains a staunch opponent to promoting LGBT equality in Hong Kong.’
