Malaysian MP concerned over LGBT content on Netflix

In a further development in anti-LGBT rhetoric in Malaysia, an MP this week raised concerns over LGBT content on Netflix in parliament, stating that it was ‘causing worry among the people’.

MP Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid questioned the communications minister on whether Netflix was censored in the same way as cinema releases are in Malaysia. ‘I am seeing widespread sex scenes and LGBT elements which are causing worry among the people,’ she said, according to Malaysiakini. The minister said he would reply to her in writing.

Muslim-majority Malaysia is amid a crackdown on its LGBT citizens, and in December last year, it pledged to cut any LGBT content from cinema releases.
