Thailand’s scope for further improvements within LGBT Rights & Inclusion

A Bangkok Post Opinion article states that ‘Thailand still lags in LGBT issues’.

This follows Taiwan’s ‘trail blazer’ for Asia in legalising same-sex marriage and is being voiced despite significant recent positive developments on LGBT inclusion in Thailand, which has a same-sex partnership bill pending.
Highlighting the importance of Tourism for Thailand’s economy, the article puts the spotlight on the scope for improvements within rights protection for the LGBT Community and legislating to outlaw police discrimination based on sexual orientation.
The article also highlights the significant impact of international LGBT Tourism on the Thai economy, citing an LGBT Capital (2018) estimate of US$5.3 billion in value to Thailand, equivalent to about 1.15% of total GDP.
