Despite a partial ‘caving in’ to international pressure over the enforcement of the death penalty by stoning for gay sex, Brunei remains under widespread international disgust and criticism over its Sharia Penal Code (SPC) with prescribed punishments including: stoning to death for gay sex and public flogging for abortions, adultery or rape – and women face 40 lashes as punishment for lesbian sex.
Brunei should ‘immediately repeal its newly enacted penal code’, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) said.
