Police have made several arrests and are closing in on ‘an alliance’ behind a leaked gay sex tape that has rocked politics in Malaysia. Footage purporting to show Malaysia’s Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali having sex with another man has rocked Malaysia, where gay sex is illegal.
A regional political youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz last month revealed he was one of the people in the sex tape. Police previously arrested and then released him. Earlier this month, the political party he works for fired him. Azmin’s office, meanwhile, maintains that the video clips are fakes.
Malaysia’s Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador is reported by the Straits Times to have told reporters this past weekend that police were closing in on those behind the production and sharing of the sex video. Police had arrested and released several people, he said. But authorities had not found the person responsible, evidence of ‘an alliance’.‘In this case, we have found evidence of a conspiracy and a plot by certain quarters in the production and circulation of the sex tape implicating a minister to topple someone,’ he said. He said the footage had been sent ’to the lab’ to determine its authenticity.
