The Fun Stage announced that its earlier planned lecture series has been cancelled due to an unsuccessful attempt to obtain a PELU licence.

The Fun Stage today announced that its earlier planned lecture series has been cancelled due to an unsuccessful attempt to obtain a licence from the Public Entertainment Licensing Unit (PELU), the licensing arm of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.

PELU notified the organisers that the "talks are contrary to public interest", said Richard Chua, Artistic Co-Director of The Fun Stage, in a press statement.

lecture series on gay literature to be held in singapore

A series of talks on "Same Sex Love in Chinese Culture" and "The Politics of Gay Literature" and an open forum on local book "People Like Us" will be held on March 6, 20 and 27.

Organised in conjunction with Lovers' Words, a Mandarin play about a boy and a girl falling in love in a homosexual society, The Fun Stage is presenting a series of talks on gay literature.

Lovers' Words, which is written by Taiwanese playwright Chiu An Chen and directed by Richard Chua, will be performed at the Esplanade Theatre Studio from April 16-18. The play stars Willy Lau (Light Years 1 and 2; Unbeatables 3), Scott Lei (Mad Pheonix, Beautiful Thing), Jaff Fong (MTV Clothes Man Winner), Sabrina C (also seen in Fridae Presents) and Sarah Tng.
