W@Nation: the ultimate guide

A premier event for the women, by the women, W@Nation is the girl's answer to a Nation weekend of roaring good time. Co-organised by famed women's party organiser Two Queens of Singapore, the line-up promises to be a blast with DJs Lisa C and Kate Monroe where women can party alongside one another.

This year, Nation has a new sister.

W@Nation is the all-girls party for those who're out to party or have a sizzling hot beach holiday with women from the region when Nation VI hits the Thai resort island of Phuket next month.

With an itinerary designed "by women, for women," says its organisers, the stellar party lineup looks set to take the girls in the region by storm.

All-girls party professionals
Co-organising with Fridae, Two Queens is responsible for this onslaught of no-holds-barred partying for women at Nation this year.

Two Queens organises monthly women's parties in Singapore, to fantastic response. Needless to say, they are the professionals.

"We were already considering bringing our all-girls parties beyond Singapore, perhaps to Bali or Kuala Lumpur," says Wendy Ng, Two Queens party organiser.

"So when Fridae spoke to us about co-organising a party just for the girls, we jumped at the opportunity!"

To draw women from all over the globe, Two Queens is promoting the party through a list of international girls' party organisers.

These include Malaysia's Enigma and Purple Lab, Hong Kong's HK Queens and Les Peaches, Indonesia's Bekwel-lez and Thailand's Zeta. "We're expecting girls from Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan, Europe and of course, Thailand itself," says Wendy.

"And we're sure Irene [Ang] will show them a good time — she's the life of every Two Queens party!"

Irene Ang, a famous and respected personality in Singapore's entertainment industry, will bring a touch of her magic by hosting the water games at the afternoon poolside parties.

The games will reach a climax at a Two Queens Awards ceremony held on the last day of games.

"There'll be an interactive system where you can give hearts to your favourite girls, to help them score," says Wendy.

"At the end of it, we'll give out awards such as 'The Girl with the Most Hearts', 'Best Tan', 'Fairest Two Queener' — just for a bit of fun!"

Singaporean DJ Lisa C. will also be spreading the love at the all-girls party on the first night.

With 10 years of DJ-ing experience behind her, this wunderkind started her career at the infamous Zouk club in Singapore. Since then, she has played all over Asia in every type of venue imaginable.

Also having played a main set at Nation 2002, Lisa claims it as her favourite gig of all time: "I remember putting my head down to mix the second track in and when I looked up again, the 200-strong crowd had become about 2000. It was incredible," she says.

With an itinerary like this, it's no wonder that ticket sales are healthy. Two Queens is expecting another surge in response as W@Nation draws nearer.

"When people can finalise leave and all that, they'll make last minute travel plans, and we're preparing ourselves!" says Wendy.

What to do there
Day 1 (Oct 20). After settling into your room and registering at the W@Nation host hotel, the Phuket Orchid Resort, attendees can look forward to a welcome dinner, more specifically a Seafood BBQ Buffet Dinner by the pool at the luxurious Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa, to meet all the other women in town for the 3-day event.

After dinner, attendees will adjourn to the Two Queens Exclusive Girls Party - also held at the Hilton - featuring DJ Lisa C.

Day 2 (Oct 21). For early birds, morning hours can be spent having breakfast, going on a tour to the Adventure Park, visiting the shooting range, or some rugged ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) offroad riding.

For everyone else, the rest of the day's festivities go like this: Rise at noon. Grab a bite and head to the poolside, where the hottest women from all across Asia are getting ready for some fun and games.

Get wet for two solid hours with at the poolside party (which involves some form of Aqua Aerobics and Water Volleyball, or so we hear) which is hosted by Irene Ang. Then take a breather for the next few hours after the water madness. Adjourn to your room, or try out some of that ATV offroad riding if you like.

Come nightfall, it's time to rendezvous with the girls and boys as all Fridae partygoers hit the dance floor in full-blown havoc at the Hilton ballroom. For the next six hours or so, envelope yourself in the rhythm as world-renowned DJ Tony Moran, one of the best-known producers with numerous hit mixes for pop divas including Mariah Carey, Cher and Beyonce.

Day three presents more opportunities to have a tan at the poolside and mingle with other partygoers at the pool party hosted by Irene Ang. In the evening, sit back and enjoy an exclusive Two Queens Cabaret Show & International Buffet Dinner at the Phuket Orchid Resort. Take a disco nap to refresh yourself before hot favourite DJs David S, Victor Cheng and Kate Monroe burn up the dance floor all the way till 8am the next day.

Help the children
Besides partying, Two Queens has also incorporated activities to appeal to, well, our softer side. An optional trip to Child-Watch Phuket, an orphanage that provides rudimentary schooling and accommodation for about 50 young children in Phuket, has been scheduled on Oct 23.

The organisation, which runs a safe house program and focuses on helping abused children and children at risk, has limited government funding, and relies heavily on goodwill and donations. The trip to Child-Watch will give you a chance to spend a few hours with the children up to 18 years old and bring along cash or items you wish to donate.

A list of items that can be donated, such as pencils, pens and toys, will be posted on the Two Queens website before W@Nation. "One of their key concerns when I visited just two days ago was the lack of nutrition for the children, but they can't afford to give the children milk," says Wendy.

"Also, Child-Watch teaches the children how to behave and their ABCs, but in terms of intellectual growth, they still need financial support to get a proper education in a school."

"We're hoping to raise awareness, and hopefully, some women might also consider providing scholarships for these children. Some are ready to go to school," she says.

According to the Child-Watch Phuket web site, sending a young child to school in Phuket costs about US$100 a year.

Two Queens will also raise funds for Child-Watch at their October monthly party in Singapore.
