first ever GLBT community centre in s'pore opens

Singapore's first ever gay and lesbian community centre to open Dec 6, 2003.

Pelangi (Malay for rainbow) Pride Centre is an effort by the MSM (Men who have sex with Men) and WSW (Women who have sex with Women) HIV/STI prevention programmes of Action for AIDS and is located on the upper floor of the AfA office.

The centre will comprise a library where visitors can borrow GLBT fiction & non-fiction books, provide phone counselling and provide referrals to GLBT-friendly medical, legal and other services.

The centre aims to organise film screenings, parties, workshops and other community events in the near future and is seeking donations, sponsorship and volunteers.

The opening party will take place this Saturday, Dec 6, from 6pm to 9pm and will feature live tribal drumming & flame throwing, food and drink, music, film screening as well as safer-sex demos. Afterwhich, the resource centre will be open on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm and Saturdays from 3pm to 7pm.
