Despite its grim title, Accuracy of Death is a rather pleasant and life-affirming drama. The impossibly gorgeous Takeshi Kaneshiro plays an angel of death who typically befriends a person for seven days before deciding whether to take that person's life or not.

Among his subjects are a shy girl who can't seem to find happiness, a yakuza gangster with a loyal follower, and an old hairdresser who lives alone. Each one has his or her own perspective on life and death. But these varying perspectives commonly drive home the film's message that we should cherish every moment of our lives.

Based on a bestselling Japanese novel, Accuracy of Death is the perhaps the best film for thinking movie-goers this week. Even if you're not quite satisfied with its arguments or conclusion, Takeshi's matinee-idol looks should still make those two hours in the dark worthwhile.
