4th ILGA Asia Conference in Surabaya, Indonesia: Mar 26-28

ILGA Asia will hold its 4th Regional Conference in Indonesia on March 26-28, 2010, with the theme "LGBT ASIA Moving Forward!"

Over 150 LGBTQI activists from all over Asia are expected to participate in this 3-day conference. At present, there are around 100 LGBT organisations that are members of ILGA ASIA. Gaya Nusantara will host the 4th ILGA Asia Conference. The objective of the conference is to move Asia’s LGBTIQ communities and organisations towards a common vision, mission & goal, and to draft an action plan for cooperation amongst ILGA Asia members.

The International Gay Association (IGA) was set up in 1978 in England to provide a forum for LGBT activist groups to network and exchange information. The World Conference was the forum where members came together and was the vehicle by which ‘action’ was initiated. In 1986, IGA then became ILGA to reflect the inclusion and contribution of lesbians. In the 1980s, its work expanded to regional meetings and projects beyond the world conference. Today, ILGA is a world-wide federation of more than 560 local, national and international member-organizations, representing every continent and around 90 countries.

The ILGA Asia has been the largest and the most diverse in terms of coverage area. It had its first regional conference in Mumbai, India in 2002. Its second regional conference was held in Cebu, Philippines in 2005. The third regional conference was held on 24 – 27 January 2008 in Chiang Mai, Thailand which was attended by around 160 LGBT activists from Asia [representing 16 countries] and beyond. The LGBT activists discussed LGBT issues under the theme “Equality in Diversity Now!”, and to elect a working Board for the first time. At present, ILGA Asia has around 100 LGBT member-organisations.

Now you are invited to participate in the 4th ILGA ASIA Regional Conference!

The conference is open to people of all sexual identities and orientations supportive of LGBT issues and concerns in Asia. Over 150 LGBTQI activists from all over Asia are expected to participate in this 3-day conference. Gaya Nusantara is the host organisation for the 4th ILGA Asia Conference in Indonesia. The main objective of the conference is to move Asia’s LGBTIQ communities and organisations towards a common vision, mission & goal, and to draft an action plan for cooperation amongst ILGA Asia members.
