The macho dancing bars in the Philippines are unique hiring only 'straight' or 'bisexual' - never gay - dancers, among other features. On-site research has produced the following report from Douglas Sanders who compares Manila's macho bars to Bangkok's host bars.
Launched last Saturday, the Thai Rainbow Archives project aims to archive Thailand's gay, lesbian and transgender heritage. Douglas Sanders has more on the project and history of gay magazines in Thailand.
Described by attendees and organisers as "historic," the groundbreaking international conference of Asian queer studies held in Bangkok last week attracted some 550 scholars, NGO workers and gay activists from over 20 countries. Sylvia Tan reports from Bangkok.
