China Pressures Gay Games Over Taiwan Flag

China insists Taiwan is a province of China, and forbids recognition of it as a country on the world stage.

LGBT rights activists in Taiwan have accused China of pressuring Gay Games organizers not to allow Taiwan to enter the competition as a country.

Insistence from Beijing that Taiwan is part of China means Taiwan is forced to compete as "Chinese Taipei" at the Olympics and other competitions.

Yang Chih-chun, president of the Taiwan Gay Sports and Gay Development Movement Association, told Hong Kong Standard they were notified by the Gay Games last week that the French government had expressed concerns over displaying the Taiwanese flag.

"Our logical conclusion is that China protested to the French government," Yang told the newspaper.

The gay games was founded in 1982 with 10,000 participants expected at next month's event in Paris, france. The 2022 games will take place in Chinese territory Hong Kong.

Time these sporting bodies etc told China to mind its own business. I used to support a one-China policy but not any more. Especially since China's bullying of its neighbours.

I hope the organisers tell China to go screw themselves! They are not officially a gay friendly nation, so why should anyone take the slightest notice of them. They also just got the East Asia Youth Games in Taiwan stopped. I hope someone gives them a bloody nose some time soon, show them how countries should behave internationally. They have no manners.
