Working on a barge that travels between
Glasgow and Edinburgh carrying coal, Joe is a randy ol' chap who
befriends Les as they labor hard days and pass their evenings over
pints and darts in the local pubs.

Joe begins a steamy affair with Les' wife, Ella, as he watches
the circumstances and investigation that develop around the mysterious
drowning of a girl, with whom he had raunchy sexual interludes that
form his fondest memories. Innocence and conscience hangs in the
air as he witnesses the trial from the back seat.
