Another cartoon?
After Shark Tale and The Incredibles opened in
the last two weeks, we must all be feeling a little out-animated.
Well, here's the deal: The Polar Express is somewhat better
than Shark Tale, but nowhere near as fun as The Incredibles.
However, the story does revolve around Christmas, so if you're feeling
disappointed by the unimpressive festive decorations on Orchard
Road this year, then maybe you should take a ride on The Polar
Express.
Robert Zemeckis (director of Forrest Gump) reteams with
Tom Hanks to tell the story of a boy who doesn't quite believe in
Santa — until a magical train arrives outside his house to
take him to the North Pole to meet the latter.
Based on Chris Van Allsburg's children's book, the animation is
created by a state-of-the-art computer process called performance
capture. But one can't shake the feeling that the characters look
somewhat stiff and robotic, or that the story is an old one.
