Red Eye

Director: Wes Craven

Starring: Rachel McAdams, Cillian Murphy

Screening: 2005-08-30

Announcing the arrival of Flight?Rachel McAdams. Yup, this dreamy-looking
ingnue is the hottest tootsie in Tinseltown right now. Having made
millions of girls sit up and notice her in Mean Girls and
The Notebook, she's now effortlessly cruising into the
A-list of actresses.

Her new movie Red Eye is a solid thriller set in the air
by director Wes Craven (of Nightmare on Elm Street). Rachel
plays a gorgeous hotel manager who's about to take a flight from
Dallas to Florida. She meets a seductive stranger (Cillian Murphy,
of 28 Days Later) in the airport lounge who happens to
be taking the same flight.

Girls, if you don't know how to chat up a pretty girl like Rachel,
then you should take lessons from Cillian. He's smoother than ice-cream,
and really knows how to put a babe at ease. Of course, there's always
a catch — and it's a big one. It turns out the Cillian is
involved in a plot to assassinate a politician?

Although the plot sounds like a generic TV movie, Red Eye
is actually a sleek and riveting piece of entertainment. Director
Wes Craven may have made his name making horror movies. But here,
he shows you how good he is at generating fear and suspense without
any supernatural elements.

Red Eye is the best new movie of the week, and Rachel's
heroine routine is the best we've seen in months.
