The dyke-est film to open this week is Goalposts & Lipstick,
a Malaysian chick flick about a girly girl (Nur Fazura) who is jealous
of the time her boyfriend spends watching and playing football.
When her boyfriend dumps her for a female football player, she decides
to learn to play football and win him back.
Starting a new girl's team, she attracts a number of girls who
we notice are very butch. Though the film keeps pretending that
all the girls on the team are straight, we beg to differ. Indeed,
there is a rather silly scene where one of the players?mothers
suspects her daughter of being a lesbian. So the entire team holds
this girlish party in 'baju kurung?to convince the poor mother
otherwise.
But, if you switch off your gay radar for two hours, you might
just enjoy this fluffy comedy that does not pretend to be anything
more than a cheap cross between Bend It Like Beckham and
Legally Blonde. There are more misses than goals, though.
