Click

Director: Frank Coraci

Starring: Adam Sandler, Kate Beckinsale, Joseph Castanon, Tatum McCann, Christopher Walken

Release: 2006-08-01

Ever wished you could fast forward or slow down time? So does Michael Newman (Adam Sandler), and he actually gets his wish fulfilled in Click, when he realises that the universal remote he received can actually affect his real-life environment. He has a lot of fun with the remote at first, but as time goes on, Michael gradually discovers the downside of owning such a device.

This is not a “typical” Adam Sandler movie, and therein lies Click's weakness — there's an uneasy marriage between the typical crass Sandler humour and the more dramatic elements of the film, with the drama actually much better than the gross-out comedy. That said, as a whole Click still works, although it is all too easy to predict how the movie will end.

Another iffy thing about the movie — they should have taken notes from X-Men 3 when employing CG effects to age and un-age the actors in the film. Although aging the actors still looks okay, when CG is used to un-age Michael's parents, the results are horribly waxy and un-lifelike. Thankfully these effects don't last too long, or Click might have just become a horror movie instead.
