Those of you who admired Charlize Theron's Oscar-winning performance
in Monster — but missed seeing her as a glamourpuss
— will be delighted to watch her return to her gorgeous self
in her first post-Oscar role.
In this war romance set in 1930s Europe, Charlize plays a rich,
bohemian golden girl who starts an affair with a university student
(real-life boyfriend Stuart Townsend — also yummy). But later,
she also falls for a Spanish striptease artist-turned-nurse (Penelope
Cruz). A menage a trois is thus born, amid a tumultuous
time in history.
To be honest with you, this period movie is somewhat cliched, overlong
and unsatisfying. And Charlize over-indulges in her drama queen
bits.
But hey, she does look spectacular in those gowns, her accessories
are to-die-for, and her hair looks like it was lit from within.
For Charlize's fans, that's enough!
