This sweet, moving and well-acted drama from China recently won
the Grand Jury Prize at the Montreal Film Festival in Canada, while
lead actor Fan Wei walked off with the award for Best Actor.
Set in Beijing, Fan plays a lonely parking attendant and single
father who wants to marry a pretty florist. But his teenage son
objects to the union because he still prefers his real Mum. To make
matters worse, the florist's belligerent husband is released from
prison and changes his mind about granting her a divorce.
Fan, who is a well-known comedian in China, is utterly convincing
and affecting as the beleaguered parking attendant, while the rest
of the cast also deliver fine performances.
Definitely one of the most interesting Chinese films you'll see
this year.
