Documentary-maker Tan Pin Pin, the only Singaporean to have won
an Oscar for her documentary Moving House, is showing her
latest documentary Singapore GaGa at the Substation from
July 1 to 3.
Raved by audiences and critics since it was screened at this year's
Singapore Film Festival, the documentary is a heady look into what
makes Singaporeans uniquely Singaporean. It blends images of a poor
beggar in a wheelchair singing haunting tunes with those of world-famous
toy piano player Margaret Leng-Tan, among thousands of others.
The result is a beautiful visual and aural tapestry that celebrates
the daily sights and sounds that most Singaporeans take for granted.
