Better known as the sequel to Japanese horror flick One Missed
Call, Red Candy is definitely one to be missed.
Red Candy basically shares the same premise as its predecessor:
Tokyo citizens would get a call on their cell phone with a ringtone
they had never downloaded, and through that call they would learn
of their deaths three days in the future. Then, at the appointed
time, they would die, and they would be found with a red gumball
in their mouth, and it was all somehow connected to a creepy, recently-deceased
little girl.
The film is bogged down by an over-written screenplay that throws
in red herrings with such carelessness that one wonders if the screenwriter
is not himself working under a deadline. As a result, the film is
rife with unresolved subplots and meaningless details that do more
to irritate than intrigue.
