If you've seen all the gay films we've recommended over the past
weeks, then you're left with no choice but to watch a Straight Movie.
The best of the lousy Straight Movies this week is The Legend
of Zorro, the swashbuckling sequel to the 1999 hit Mask
of Zorro.

Fast-forwarding 10 years since we last saw Zorro (Antonio Banderas),
the masked man is now married to Elena (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and
has a son. Because he's so busy rescuing innocent villagers from
assorted villains, Elena laments, "You're missing out on your
son's entire life!"

The couple separates and Zorro gets very depressed. Meanwhile,
Elena gets unwanted attention from a slimy vineyard owner (Rufus
Sewell) who just happens to be part of a conspiracy involving weapons
of mass destruction (they couldn't find them in Iraq, but they've
readily available in 1850s California?).

All this gives Zorro the perfect excuse to snap back into action
and give audiences an hour's worth of fight and chase sequences.
Catherine Zeta-Jones smoulders as always, while Antonio Banderas
supposedly exudes some kind of sex appeal too. Well-shot, well-directed
and somewhat well-acted, The Legend of Zorro isn't exactly
classic material, but it will entertain you.
